Vitamins

Where to start? Think about starting with a multi-vitamin. Typically, a multi-vitamin has 7 ingredients:

Vitamin D
Magnesium
Calcium
Zinc
Iron
Folate
Vitamin B12

**But if you struggle with constipation a multi-vitamin with iron may worsen the problem.

Not all vitamins are created equal. Look at the quality of the vitamins. Read the instructions. Some are best taken with food, some without. Remember, vitamins are used to supplement what you aren't receiving from a proper diet.

Migraines

Migraines are miserable. Understanding your migraine triggers can be key to keeping your pain at bay. Did you know food triggers can occur up to 24 hours after consumption? By tracking your food you are more likely to zero in on a pattern and begin experimenting with eliminating certain foods from your diet. Even though Excedrin Migraine contains caffeine to help combat your migraine, too much caffeine can cause rebound headaches. By tracking and potentially decreasing caffeine consumption you may not only decrease your number of migraines but also headaches.

Additionally, speaking to your doctor about adding supplements to your routine such as CoQ10, Vitamin B2, Magnesium, could be potentially beneficial.

If you are a migraine suffer, part of our monthly membership program offers in-office migraine buster medications and we can help you create a plan to get your migraines better under control.

Oral Health

We all think we know how to brush our teeth right? It's one of those things we don't really think about it, we just do it. Maybe you hold your toothbrush like this sweet kid...but what if we told you, that's not the best way to keep your teeth and gums healthy?

To most effectively remove plaque and food from your gums, hold your toothbrush at a 45° angle to your gums. Brushing for about 2 minutes twice a day. In your mind, separate your mouth in four quadrants and spend 30 seconds on each.

Healthy teeth and gums are more important than just having a great smile. Those suffering from gum disease are more likely to have other medical issues also. "Researchers at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry found that people with gum disease were twice as likely as others to die from a heart attack and three times as likely to have a stroke..."

Smoking

Did you know, after just 2 days of not smoking your sense of taste and smell begin to heal? After one month of not smoking your lungs begin to recover. Meaning, coughing becomes less, breathing becomes easier, and your lung capacity increases.

Fever

Fevers are typically miserable. Did you know that you can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen (NSAIDs) together or alternating for fever or pain? 🤯 Alternating is only important to limit the amount of each medication you're taking each day. Learn to fight fever smarter!

Do not take more than the daily dosage recommendations.

Stress

Looking at the week ahead and already feeling a little stressed? Go ahead and plan for times you can boost your endorphins. Whether that means a ten minute dance party break or a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood.

Stressors will occur, find healthy ways to cope.

Burns

Burns occurring on the hands, especially involving the fingers, can result in swelling almost immediately. Remember to remove rings or jewelry from the area immediately.
If the ring is already difficult to remove a call to 911 or a trip to the local fire department or urgent care may unfortunately be in your future to cut the metal off. Better to have the ring repair than to cut off blood supply to your finger.

Nosebleeds [Epistaxis]

Nosebleeds or if you like to be fancy, epistaxis, can occur spontaneously but usually this is from picking of the nose or dryness. Combat that dryness with a humidifier and/or some antibiotic ointment. However, if you do find yourself with a nosebleed, don't panic.

Stay in an upright position, holding firm and steady pressure on the wide part of your nose for 10 minutes. Set a timer. Because if not 3 minutes will seem like 10 and you'll wonder why your nose hasn't stopped bleeding yet.
